Digitalisation: a lifestyle!

I browse and surf, blog, skype, facebook, spotify, chat, I’m thinking about twittering and I’m Linked In. At least 60 per cent of my life has been digitalised. Barely six years ago I was an apprehensive and reluctant novice when it came to computers...

Hemels Academy:

learning by doing

Why Hemels

Mission statement

Hemels advises on the use of customer media, creates original and effective concepts and fully manages the realisation.

International

International publishing is a complex process, which is more about understanding local and cultural differences than it is about one-to-one translations.

Hemels produces magazines, e-zines and e-mail newsletters – in several language versions and tailored to their respective counties – for a variety of clients, including Mercedes-Benz and NEC-Philips. Our native-speaking managing editors and editors from countries like the UK, Spain, France and Italy have first-hand knowledge of their respective markets and are able to apply exactly the right cultural nuances. And for countries further afield, we can also help our clients retain the close bonds they enjoy with their target groups.

Segmentation

An organisation might want to communicate with several different target groups, both internal as well as external. It’s usually impractical to approach all target groups in the same way. Once an organisation has identified its target groups, a relationship medium can be segmented in accordance with region, language or information needs. Hemels is specialised in the area of segmentation and can apply this segmentation in accordance with the requirements per market (Mercedesmagazine is custom-made for nine different countries), per region (the U&UWV personnel magazine is produced in 17 different regional editions), per information need (three different editions of MyToyota are produced to cater for target groups with different information needs), and per language.

Full Service

Hemels, literally, has everything it needs to produce customer relationship media, in-house. Editorial groups manage the whole process from A to Z: from the editorial meeting to layout, lithography and distribution (physical or electronic). In the case of a printed magazine, industry-savvy experts ensure the best possible quality for the most competitive prices. Under the guidance of art directors, graphic designers work in the same building as editorial staff, which makes the communication between the client, the studio and the editorial department so much more efficient. Even the advertising department orchestrates the acquisition of advertisements for Hemels’ national and international titles in-house.

Cross media

Every means of communication has its own specific characteristics. An online platform, for example, is typically up-to-date, personal, interactive and commercial, while printed matter is more suited to providing background information, insight, inspiration, bonding and Internet references. Hemels can provide content for and produce e-zines, websites, digital newsletters and printed media, so that that these different media platforms can reinforce and complement one another.

For example, in addition to providing its printed monthly personnel magazine, Hemels produces editorial content for various internal digital newsletters for UWV, in which news is directed at specific target groups within the organisation. And in addition to a printed edition, there is also an online version of Mercedesmagazine which offers additional functionalities, such as videos of the brand’s latest models. It goes without saying that the platform is never a goal in itself; it’s all about meeting the goals set by our clients.

Work flow systems

Using two work flow systems, OverC and the Digital Editorial Assistant, Hemels keeps its clients continuously up-to-speed when it comes to text and images. Requiring a personal login, OverC provides a means for clients to check layout pages, post comments to them and eventually approve them too, and all online. The Digital Editorial Assistant system, meanwhile, streamlines the editorial process of producing segmented publications. In it, every article gets its own “digital P.O. Box”, in which text and images provided by the writer and photographer can be “posted”, then efficiently assessed and edited.
